The Leader Update

New Pre-Employment Checklist

Effective Thursday, May 1, Human Resources is enhancing the process for submitting information required for the Pre-Employment processing of new faculty, academic A&P, and student employees, as well as visiting faculty, pre/post doctoral fellows, observers, and volunteers. This change will

  • expedite new-hire processing;
  • ensure greater data security;
  • enhance transmittal and management of department/candidate information;
  • allow hiring departments to track status of where their candidates are in the process; and
  • provide system generated follow-up communication to hiring authorities – informing them when all phases of new hire processing have been completed.

The new process will require departments to submit pre-employment information (such as name, title, classification, department, hire date, etc.) directly into the PeopleAdmin applicant tracking system, rather than sending a paper document or e-mail.

There will be a two - week transition period. After Thursday, May 15, pre-employment requests (i.e. Pre-employment checklists) for these classifications will only be accepted on-line via PeopleAdmin.

For more information on this new process contact: Paul.Kattapong@uth.tmc.edu , 713-500-3147 or Martha.Roco@uth.tmc.edu, 713-500-3140.

UT House Medics Save the Dates

Since April was declared Volunteer Month a few years ago, there are so many worthy volunteer opportunities during that month at UT. Rather than compete with these wonderful projects, we have decided to move the UT House Medics’ spring campaign to the fall beginning this year.

Should you still want to work on senior citizen home in April, we can arrange for you to work with a team already signed up with Rebuilding Together Houston. RTH has crews out in the community in both the spring and fall.

Please join us in October for the fall UT House Medics project. We will begin recruiting in a few months. Until then, save the dates below for the fall project:

  • Crew Leader Meeting (RTH Warehouse), Saturday Oct. 4
  • Work Day, Saturday, Oct. 18
  • Work Day, Saturday, Oct. 25
  • Rain Date, Saturday, Nov. 1

WorkLife Tip of the Week

Stress at work increases the chance of colds, flu and stomach ailments, said a Maastricht University study that followed 8,000 employees from various companies over a three-year period. For both men and women, a lack of freedom to organize their own work and a lack of support from colleagues increased the risk for the onset of prolonged fatigue by a factor 1.5 to 2.

  • For men — high emotional demand coupled with physically demanding work and little support from immediate supervisors increased the occurrence of fatigue.
  • For women — a demanding job and conflicts were related to the onset of fatigue.

Visit the WorkLife resources Web site (password UTH) to find great additional information. Then, if you have concerns, please call 713-500-3327 or visit http://www.uthouston.edu/worklife/ for help.
