Finalist Named for President of UT Health Science Center at HoustonThe University of Texas System Board of Regents on Monday (Apr. 14) named Dr. Larry R. Kaiser the sole finalist for the presidency of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. View the complete release at: UCSC WorkshopThe 13th Annual University Classified Staff Workshop presented by the University Classified Staff Council (UCSC) — “Creating Waves of Success: Finding Seashells along the Way" — will take place Monday, May 12, at the San Luis Conference Center in Galveston. Online registration is open through April 18 for the workshop which is exclusively for university classified staff. There are still a number of places available. Even if you attended recently, there may still be a place for you at the conference, so don’t hesitate to register. United To ServeLooking for a way to give back as you clean out some of those old electronics or antique board games? Well, here’s how: Donate your old gaming systems and video/board games to brighten the day of a sick child. United To Serve is a collaborative effort of volunteers across all 15 UT campuses. Our project this year is to donate games to local hospitals in the Texas Medical Center and to take the time to play these games with patients on Saturday, April 19. To confirm you plan to take part in the volunteer day, e-mail Audrey.R.Ester@uth.tmc.edu. If you can't volunteer on this day, please consider donating your old board games and video games to help these patients. Donation of new games is encouraged, as well. Donation boxes are located within each of the six schools on the UT Health Sciences Center campus, as well as at the Rec Center. iRIS TrainingiRIS training provides an overview of the integrated Research Information System used to submit protocols involving human subjects. Upcoming classes: Wednesday, April 30 in UCT 1160. The instructor will walk students through the initial submission of a protocol, as well as responding to pending items in a submission. Parking will be validated. Register online at iRIS Online Training Healthcare Management Panel Discussion“Bridging the Divide: From Institutional Health to Community Well-being, A Reflection on Houston’s Healthcare over the Past 20 Years,” the first of a series of panel discussions on healthcare management, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, SPH (RAS) Auditorium, sponsored by the UT School of Public Health. Library Book SaleIn Celebration of National Library Week, The Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center (HAM-TMC) Library will hold a book sale through Friday April 18. Stop by the library to browse the fiction and non-fiction titles, video games and puzzles available for sale. Hardbacks and puzzles are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents and videogames are $10. Summer 2008 Schedule of ClassesThe Summer Schedule of Classes is currently available online at the Registrar’s Office. For Dental Hygiene, Dental Postgraduates, Nursing, Medical Clinical Research, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Health Information Sciences and Public Health students’ registration opens Monday, April 14. Exhibit: Changing the Face of MedicineThe traveling exhibition “Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America's Women Physicians” will be on display at the HAM-TMC library from April 23 through June 6, 2008. An opening reception on April 30 at noon and a panel discussion Adventures and Challenges of Women Physicians on May 6 at 11:30 a.m. will take place in the Street Level Conference Room. Norsigian’s presentation is part of the TMC Women’s Health Network Second Tuesday Seminar Series, which provides information on various areas of women’s health. The group’s next meeting on Tuesday, May 13 spotlights “Advancing Women’s Health through Collaboration: Advocacy & Action in Texas”. The second annual advocacy conference features Nancy Dickey, M.D., president of the Texas A&M University Health Center and Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs of Texas A&M University as the keynote speaker at its luncheon.
