UCSC Workshop

The 13th Annual University Classified Staff Workshop presented by the University Classified Staff Council (UCSC) — “Creating Waves of Success: Finding Seashells along the Way" — will take place Monday, May 12, at the San Luis Conference Center in Galveston.

Dunk - A – Dean

The Student Activities Council invites you to “Dunk – A – Dean” at the 2008 Student Spring Mixer on Friday, April 11 from 4:30 – 7 p.m. at the UTHSC-H Recreation Center. Come join our students and faculty for a fun time of food, drinks, music and activities. This year students will have a chance to “Dunk-a-Dean” by throwing the right pitch.

A student ID is required to attend the event. Each student may bring their spouse or one guest. Parking is available on the adjacent lot.

United To Serve

Donate your old gaming systems and video/board games to brighten the day of a sick child.  United To Serve is a collaborative effort of volunteers across all 15 UT campuses, and the project this year is to donate games to local hospitals in the Texas Medical Center and to take the time to play these games with patients on Saturday, April 19.

If you can't volunteer on this day, please consider donating your old board games and video games to help these patients. Donation boxes are located at each of the six schools and the Rec Center on the UT Health Science Center campus.

Fact Book 2008

The Office of Academic Affairs: Outcomes Assessment & Biostatistical Services is pleased to announce that The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston’s Fact Book 2008, which covers fiscal years 1998 through 2007, is now available online at Fact Book 2008.

The Fact Book 2008 print edition will be available soon and mailed to various departments as in previous years.

HOOP Updates

The Sick Leave Pool Program policy has been updated in the Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOOP) and the Safe Use of Biological Agents policy has been revised and re-named the Safe Use of Hazardous Materials in the Laboratory policy.

HOMES Clinic Needs Physician Volunteers

The Houston Outreach Medicine, Education, and Social Services (HOMES) clinic provides free, quality healthcare to homeless residents of Houston. As a student-run program, the HOMES clinic offers students real life experience in the health care system and the opportunity to provide medical attention to those in need.

However, the students who staff the HOMES clinic need physician preceptors to assist students with diagnosis and treatment of patients. Physician preceptors are needed to work at the downtown clinic, 1212 Prairie St., near Minute Maid Park, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., two to three Sundays a year.

Summer 2008 Schedule of Classes

The Summer Schedule of Classes is currently available at Registrar’s.

For Dental Hygiene, Dental Postgraduates, Nursing, Medical Clinical Research, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Health Information Sciences and Public Health students’ registration opens Monday, April 14. Late Registration is open Monday, May 19 through Thursday, May 22 and requires a $15 late fee.

Spring 2008 HUB Vendor Fair

The Spring 2008 Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Vendor Fair is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Medical School Leather Lounge. Sixteen vendors will attend. During the vendor fair, prizes will be raffled and popcorn will be served.

SWCOEH Funding Opportunity

The Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) at the School of Public Health supports short-term research pilot projects to enhance occupational and environmental health research in Region 6 (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico).

Funding is provided through a Pilot Projects Research Training Grant from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and awards are made competitively. Detailed information on the grant application procedures, deadline for applications, and application forms are available at the NIOSH Pilot Project website.
