Student volunteers needed

The Office of Institutional Advancement is looking for a few student volunteers to beta test the university's campus-wide intranet (Inside UT Houston) and offer suggestions on student-related content and links. The testing will be conducted at University Center Tower (UCT) and take about 45 minutes.

The campus-wide intranet will bring together internal news, links to primary systems, highly used forms and constituent-specific resources for a more streamlined, user-friendly experience. In essence, letting end-users quickly get to the information/resources they need, when they need it!

If you'd like to make a difference in the information and links to which you and future students will easily have access, respond to Jennifer.L.Canup@uth.tmc.edu by Monday, Feb. 11, with your testing availability (time/date) and contact information.

WorkLife Tip of the Week

Stress at work increases the chance of colds, flu and stomach ailments, said a Maastricht University study that followed 8,000 employees from various companies over a three-year period. For both men and women, a lack of freedom to organize their own work and a lack of support from colleagues increased the risk for the onset of prolonged fatigue by a factor 1.5 to 2.

  • For men — high emotional demand coupled with physically demanding work and little support from immediate supervisors increased the occurrence of fatigue.
  • For women — a demanding job and conflicts were related to the onset of fatigue.
