Hundreds of UT Medical Students
Meet Their Match, March 19
HOUSTON – (March 16, 2009) – With four years of medical school almost behind them, more than 200 students at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston anxiously anticipate finding out where their training will take them after graduation. The soon-to-be doctors and residency programs at teaching hospitals throughout the United States have evaluated and ranked one another. A national computerized process has paired applicants with programs based on the ranked preferences. The results will be revealed at the same moment, coast to coast.
| WHAT: | Match Day is filled with excitement as seniors at every medical school in the country simultaneously open envelopes to reveal where they will do their residencies. The annual event is made possible by the National Resident Matching Program. Established in 1952, the organization is the primary route for applicants to residency programs to obtain training positions at U.S. teaching hospitals. | |
| WHEN: | March 19, 10:30 a.m. | Festivities begin |
| WHO: | Seniors with unique stories, including the class president and students who are pursuing careers in primary care, will be available for interviews in English and/or Spanish. UT Medical School leaders also will be on hand to provide information about this milestone in each student’s journey to become physicians dedicated to excellence in patient care. | |
| WHERE: | Webber Plaza, behind the UT Medical School at 6431 Fannin St. If it rains, the event will be moved to the main auditorium on the third floor of the school. Parking will be arranged for reporters and photographers who call in advance. | |
