UT School of Nursing Expert Elected
to Board of Society for Neuro-Oncology
HOUSTON – (Oct. 17, 2008)– Terri S. Armstrong, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Integrative Nursing Care at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing, has been elected to the Society for Neuro-Oncology’s Board of Directors.

Armstrong, adjunct associate professor and advanced practice nurse at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, will serve on the board until 2011.
The Society for Neuro-Oncology is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to promoting advances in neuro-oncology through research and education. Members include specialists in epidemiology, medical oncology, neuro-oncology, neurosurgery, pathology, psychology, radiology, radiation oncology and basic science.
Armstrong has worked in the field of neuro-oncology since 1992. She joined the UT School of Nursing faculty in 2007, and her research focus is symptom assessment and management.
“Terri will represent her constituency, and her input will be called on especially for issues that affect epidemiology, biostatistics, epidemiology, quality of life and symptom management,” said Jan Esenwein, chief administrative officer at the Society for Neuro-Oncology. “We expect that her multidisciplinary experience and knowledge base give her a broad understanding of these areas and are confident that her experience and exposure in these areas will serve the society well.”
Armstrong received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Akron, her Master of Science and Post-master’s Nurse Practitioner degrees from The Ohio State University School of Nursing and a doctorate from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
