Mental Sciences Institute Offers Nov. Lecture Series
HOUSTON – (Oct. 23, 2006) – Treating children with both developmental disabilities and behavioral/emotional concerns – that is, a child who has both an Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) – will be the topic of a lecture series beginning Nov. 1.

The lectures are free and open to the public.
Deborah Pearson, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, will speak on “An Introduction to Mental Health Issues in Children and Adolescents with Intellectual and Development Disabilities,” Nov. 1.
Maria Quintero, Ph.D., assistant deputy director of the Mental Retardation Services Division of the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Association of Harris County (MHMRA), will lecture on “Trends in the Management of Dual Diagnosis,” Nov. 8.
Linda Schmalstieg, M.D., Lynn Malseed, M.D., and Sarah Flick, M.D., staff psychiatrists at MHMRA will present “A Psychiatric Approach to Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness” on Nov. 29.
All lectures are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Mental Sciences Institute auditorium, 1300 Moursund Street, in the Texas Medical Center.
