Hundreds of UT Medical Students Meet Their Match, March 16

 

HOUSTON – (March 13, 2006)–With four years of medical school almost behind them, nearly 200 students at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston anxiously anticipate finding out where their training will take them after graduation. Soon-to-be doctors and residency programs at teaching hospitals throughout the United States have evaluated and ranked one another. A national computerized process has paired applicants with programs based on the ranked preferences. The results will be revealed at the same moment, coast to coast.

WHAT:

Match Day …

is filled with excitement as seniors at every medical school in the country simultaneously open envelopes to reveal where they will do their residencies. The annual event is made possible by the National Resident Matching Program. Established in 1952, the organization is the primary route for applicants to residency programs to obtain training positions at U.S. teaching hospitals.

WHEN:

March 16, 10:30 a.m.           Festivities begin.

WHO:

Seniors with unique stories, as well as UT Medical School leadership, will be available for interviews.

WHERE: 

At the Fannin Plaza entrance to the UT Medical School Building, located at 6431 Fannin St. If it rains, the event will move inside the medical school.
