Proposal Would Give UTDB Building Project Another $45M

University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston President James T. Willerson, M.D., has proposed the allocation of an additional $45 million in Permanent University Funds toward the cost of a new building for the UT Dental Branch. If approved by the UT System Board of Regents, the additional funds would bring the total contributions by the state and UT System to $133 million and enable the school to forgo building the project in phases.

In a town hall meeting July 2, Dental Branch faculty and staff members broke into applause when Dean Catherine M. Flaitz, D.D.S., M.S., announced the news.

Getting Ready for UTHSC Research Day

“Complex Determinants in Health: Interactions of Genetic Factors and Environmental Influences” is the focus of this years UT Health Science Center Research Day, scheduled for Friday, November 21, at the Fayez S. Sarofim Building of the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases. The program is designed to explore new discoveries in the area of Genes – Environment Interactions.

A Faculty Seminar and Student and Postdoc Poster Presentations will be a part of the event.

For this year’s program we have chosen a topic that encompasses many of the exciting areas of research being pursued by the faculty students and staff of our six UTHSC-H Schools and our research institutes and centers. I hope that researchers, particularly students and fellows, interested in presenting their research at Research Day will start planning their presentations now since the deadlines for registration and the submission of abstracts is fast approaching., says Peter J. Davies, M.D., Ph.D., executive vice president for Research.
