The University of Texas Residency Team was ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation out of the three top national finalist teams at the 2008 “Mind Games” competition at the American Psychiatric Association (APA) annual meeting in Washington, D.C., May 6. The team members were Tanya Krolls, M.D., first-year psychiatry resident, Peter Ly, M.D., second-year psychiatry resident, and Magdalena Peixoto, M.D., third-year psychiatry resident, all graduates of the UT Medical School at Houston and residents in the General Psychiatry Residency Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the medical school. As the winner, the residency team brought home the national trophy.
“What was most impressive and rewarding was the fact that all three residents were our own UT-Houston medical students as well,” says Anu Matorin, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and team training director. “It made all of us involved in their education and training doubly proud of their academic accomplishments.”
Ly explains that the guidance of faculty and attendings helped propel the team to success. “We were exceptionally pleased with our winning the 2008 American Psychiatric Association Mind Games! It is a great reflection of the training that we have received here at UT-Houston.”
