PARTNERS Luncheon Breaks
Attendance Record
More than 450 people turned out for the annual PARTNERS Luncheon in late March, benefiting scholarships and research at the School of Nursing. More than $200,000 was raised through the luncheon. Denton Cooley, M.D., president of Texas Heart Institute and mentor of UT Health Science Center at Houston President James T. Willerson, M.D., who will succeed him at THI, was honored at the event. S. Ward "Trip" Casscells, M.D., former vice president for biotechnology at the health science center and current assistant secretary of Defense for health affairs, was the featured speaker.
Phil Conway, current member of the UT Health Science Center at Houston Development Board and former board chair, honored his wife, Suzie Conway, 2008 PARTNERS chairman, with the suprise announcement of the gift of an endowed professorship in her name to the UT School of Nursing.

Dr. Casscells honors Dr. Cooley with the commemorative Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs coin. The coin has Dr. Casscells' name and title on one side and Department of Defense on the other. It is a keepsake given as recognition or in remembrance of an event. The higher the rank of the official giving the coin, the more difficult and scarce their coins are.
