Construction

  • Katy HOV Lane Closure
    The Texas Department of Transportation is closing the Katy HOV lane during the first week of September for final construction work on the managed lanes of the Katy Freeway.
  • METRO Airport Direct
    METRO Airport Direct launched Sunday, Aug. 24 to provide non-stop service between downtown and Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Terminal C. For more information, visit http://www.ridemetro.org/.
  • Fort Bend County Express
    Bus service from Fort Bend County direct to the Texas Medical Center begins Tuesday, Sept. 2. The first four days of service are at no cost to the riders as a way to sample the service. Regular fares of $3.50 each way start on Monday, Sept. 8. The Fort Bend County Express is included in The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Mobility Program.   • The Woodlands Express
    The Woodlands Express has reopened the Conroe Park & Ride lot located at 2905 West Loop 336. For more information, visit the Mobility Program Web site.
  • Katy HOV Lane Closure
    The Texas Department of Transportation is closing the Katy HOV lane during the first week of September for final construction work on the managed lanes of the Katy Freeway.
  • Garage 2 Construction Activities
    The roof level and parts of the seventh level of Garage 2 will be closed to all traffic, until Tuesday, Sept. 2, due to scheduled maintenance.
  • John Freeman Boulevard Traffic Flow Adjustment
    Traffic flow on John Freeman Boulevard will be adjusted for the installation of new chilled water and steam pipes through Saturday, Nov. 15. During the first phase of the project, two-way traffic in front of the HAM-TMC Library to East Cullen Street will be diverted to the south side of the street for three-and-a-half months. The second phase will last one-and-a-half months, during which the traffic will be diverted to the north side of the street.  John Freeman Boulevard will remain open during this project and access to all buildings will remain open.
  • Holcombe Street Storm Drain Improvements Timeline
    Fannin—Bates to Holcombe
    Majority of work will be performed at night during periods of minimal traffic and rail service.Sites Impacted: Clinical Care Bldg., Texas Children’s Hospital
    April through May: Construct 8-inch waterline and storm sewers in southbound lane. Construct southbound pavement. Single lane closure required.
    May through August: Construct storm sewers in northbound lane. Construct northbound pavement. Single lane closure required. 
  • University—Travis Street to Main Street
    Reconstruction of pavement, upgraded Storm Sewer & Inlets, 12-inch waterline replacement and rehabilitation work on existing wastewater line.Sites Impacted: Rice University, Rice Graduate House, Smith Tower & Garage, Scurlock Tower & Garage
    June through July: Construct storm sewer in eastbound lane of University. Construct eastbound pavement. One lane of traffic open in each direction.
    July through August: Remove and construct median pavement of University. One lane of traffic open in each direction.
    August through September: Install CIPP liner in waste water line. Construct westbound pavement. One lane of traffic open in each direction. 
  • Main Street—Sunset to Holcombe
    Upgrade Storm Sewer including new and additional curb inlets from Holcombe Boulevard to South of MacGregor Drive
    - 8-inch waterline replaced from Holcombe Boulevard to Southgate Boulevard
    - Rehabilitation work on existing wastewater lines
    Sites Impacted: Rice University, Autry House, Hermann Prof. Bldg, Prairie View A&M, Kindred Hosp., Smith Tower & Garage, Scurlock Tower & Garage, St. Lukes Medical Tower, Rice Graduate House, Hilton, Best Western, Holiday Inn
    April through May: Remove southbound lanes and construct 8” waterline and storm sewers. Construct southbound pavement. Single lane closure required.
    May through August: Remove northbound lanes and construct storm sewers. Construct northbound pavement. Single lane closure required.

  • Hermann Pressler closure
    Two lanes are closed on Herman Pressler Street between Main Street and West Holcombe Boulevard through Friday, Oct. 31. Herman Pressler Street will be open to southbound traffic only between W. Holcombe and Main Street.  The lane closure will not affect the Blue Shuttle services.
