The Dental Branch trains the highest-quality oral health care practitioners for the State of Texas and engages in leading edge research. The Dental Branch sponsors 12 accredited academic programs and is the only school in the US to offer a full array: the eight recognized specialty programs, both of the recognized graduate primary care programs and a dental hygiene program.

School of Health Information Sciences

The School of Health Information Sciences (SHIS) is the first such school in the nation to offer graduate degrees in health informatics. The school’s mission is to provide educational and research opportunities in informatics to health care professionals and biomedical scientists in interdisciplinary teams. Currently two degrees are offered, a master of science in health informatics (MS) and a doctor of philosophy in health informatics (PhD).

The School of Nursing offers a broad range of course work and a wide variety of clinical settings in which students and faculty can study, conduct research, and participate in clinical practice. The school has once again been independently recognized by U.S. News and World Report, whose Year 2001 ranking placed the UTHSC-H School of Nursing in the top 12%: of 272 schools cited, we ranked number 32 . We are well on the way to achieving our goal of becoming one of the top ten nursing schools in the country.

The mission of the school is to improve and sustain the health of people by providing the highest quality graduate education, research and community service for Texas, the nation and internationally. The school has five regional campuses located in Austin, Brownsville, Dallas, El Paso and San Antonio where they offer the Master of Public Health degrees. The main campus in Houston offers the degrees of Master of Public Health, Master of Science, Doctor of Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy. The Houston campus also offers concurrent MD/MPH, JD/MPH, MSN/MPH and MSW/MPH programs.
