  Required Elements

Required elements for Web pages published on UTHSC-H internet servers

General Requirements
A template for page header and footer elements that meets state and university requirements is available. The following elements are required on all pages hosted on UTHSC-H servers:

  • All university Web pages must use the institutional logo and name as outlined in UTHSC-H Graphic and Editorial Standards.
  • The casual reference name, UT-Houston, must no longer be used in print or Web publication. UT System requests this in their UT System Style Guidelines.
  • A text-based link to UTHSC-H’s home page must be on every Web page posted to a university Web server.

Meta Tag Requirements

  • The page title within the HTML <TITLE> tag. This requirement is in place so that external and internal search engines can find and properly index the page, as well as recognize that it is the same page on subsequent checks.
  • Basic, descriptive university meta tags needed for external and internal search engines.

The tier 3 & 4 tags are:

<title>page title </title>
•<meta name="creator" content=“Jane Doe, PhD">
•<meta name="publisher" content="The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston"> (this does not change)
•<meta name="publisher.component" content="Administration and Finance: Office of the President"> (Corresponds to your department’s HRMS department www.uth.tmc.edu/search/department_codes.htm)
•<meta name="description" content="The home page for The …">
•<meta name="keywords" content="keywords from the page">

Header Requirements

  • A title (and if needed or desired a textual description) that concisely and accurately describes the page contents.
  • Unless included elsewhere on the page, the department, division, unit or group name. This information should provide a clear indication of the site or sites that the page is a part of. For example, a faculty member’s publication page, might have links back to the faculty member’s home page and department or school.
Footer Requirements

  • The name and contact link of the primary content owner or Web author of a page.
  • A link to the department/school’s home page.
  • Date of creation or most recent revision of the document or site.
