Kenneth H. Porter, D.D.S.

The Dr. Kenneth H. Porter Operative Dentistry Scholarship Fund has been established to honor the memory of the longtime University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston faculty member. Porter, professor emeritus and clinical professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials, passed away suddenly May 19 while vacationing in Colorado.

After graduation from Baylor College of Dentistry, he entered private practice in Fort Worth and joined the Dental Branch faculty in 1969. He served as professor and chair of the Department of Operative Dentistry, 1971-78, and then briefly served as head of the Dental Division of King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Following a three-year appointment in the UTHSC-San Antonio School of Dentistry, he rejoined the Dental Branch faculty in 1984. In addition to chairing the Department of Operative Dentistry again, he also served as director of the Office of Continuing Dental Education from 1986 -1993. Porter was a Life Member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Greater Houston Dental Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and was a recipient on multiple occasions of the John P. McGovern and John W. Freeman teaching awards.
