Faculty Honors Convocation

Willerson, M.D., University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston president. Weisbrodt earned the award for teaching and Milewicz was recognized for research.

Milewicz is professor and holder of the President George Bush Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine, and Weisbrodt is professor and interim chair of the Department of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology at the Medical School. Both also hold faculty appointments at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

The awards, presented during the annual Faculty Honors Convocation held Oct. 4, are the highest faculty recognition given at the health science center. Other faculty were recognized for recent endowment appointments, including Jiajie Zhang, Ph.D., center, appointed to the Dr. Doris L. Ross Professorship at the School of Health Information Sciences (SHIS). Ross, left, now retired, was the first dean of SHIS and, along with current SHIS Dean Jack Smith, M.D., Ph.D., right, presented Zhang with a commemorative medallion during the ceremony.
