Seven Faculty Elected to UT System Education Academy
Seven faculty members from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston have been elected to The University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education, composed of outstanding teachers at UT health institutions.
Members representing the many disciplines in health science education act as ambassadors of the academy to promote educational excellence at their respective UT health institutions.
Five new members from the UT Medical School at Houston are: Eugene Boisaubin, M.D., professor of internal medicine; John McMahon, Ph.D., professor of integrative biology and pharmacology; Virginia Moyer, M.D., professor of pediatrics; Philip Orlander, M.D., professor of internal medicine; and Gary Rosenfeld, Ph.D., professor of integrative biology and pharmacology. Rosenfeld also is a faculty member in the UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston.
From the UT Dental Branch at Houston, Leslie Roeder, D.D.S., associate dean for academic affairs, was selected.
From the UT School of Nursing at Houston, Marianne T. Marcus, Ed.D., the John P. McGovern Professor in Addiction Nursing, was selected.
The new members are among 24 elected by the original 13 members. Their selection is “a reflection of the academy’s recognition of your excellent contributions to health science education,” said L. Maximilian Buja, M.D., president of the academy.
The initial 13 academy members were recommended as founding members to UT System Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Kenneth I. Shine, M.D., by the six UT health institution presidents.
Among the founding members are Buja, executive vice president for academic affairs and holder of the Distinguished Chair in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine; Frank Arnett, M.D., professor of internal medicine and holder of the Elizabeth Bidgood Chair in Rheumatology; and L. Kay Bartholomew, Ed.D., associate professor of health promotion and behavioral sciences at the UT School of Public Health.
