Smith Lectureship Marks 50 Years

The Edward T. Smith Orthopaedic Lectureship will mark its 50th anniversary with a conference on “Filling the Void: Biologics and Bone Graft” Saturday, Oct. 28, at Houston’s Four Seasons Hotel, 1300 Lamar St.

The endowment is named for Edward T. Smith, M.D., a pioneer in the field of orthopaedic surgery in Houston. He established an accredited orthopaedic residency training program in 1941 at what is now Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center. Dhiren Sheth, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, is program director for the conference, which is the oldest, longest-running lectureship of its kind in the Texas Medical Center.
