Wins Awards
Three University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston entries have garnered Grand Awards/Gold for the Office of Public Affairs in a multi-state awards competition sponsored by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District IV. The awards were presented April 10 at the annual district conference in Oklahoma City.
Two additional entries received Awards of Excellence/Silver in the competition among some 280 secondary and higher education institutions in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mexico, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Gold awards went to:
- Visual Design/Special Pieces, Groundbreaking Celebration, an invitation to the groundbreaking for the new research facility at the UT Medical School at Houston, designed by Leslie Holland.
- Medical/Scientific Writing Collection, “Compassion Fatigue - Parts I, II and III,” written by Karen Krakower, editor of HealthLeader, the online wellness magazine at http://healthleader.uth.tmc.edu/.
- World Wide Web E-newsletter, The Leader Update, online campus news service edited by Pamela Lewis at http://inside.uthouston.edu/leaderupdate//. The publication was designed by Sophia Solis, with ongoing technical support by Linda Ha.
Silver awards went to:
- Newspapers/Tabloids/Newsletters, Larger than 8 1/2 x 11, Distinctions, edited by Ina Fried. The entry included a four-page special section about the Dental Branch Centennial written by Erika E. Hargrove. The issue was designed by Julie S. Rushing, senior graphic designer in Printing Services at the time.
- Medical/Scientific Feature Writing, “Absorbing the Suffering,” written by Karen Krakower and published in HealthLeader, describing the experiences of volunteers at the Astrodome in response to Hurricane Katrina.
