Multiple Sclerosis Research Group

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Research Group at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston focuses on fundamental and applied research in neuroimmunology and advanced magnetic resonance imaging to better understand the origins and treatment of MS.

Organized in 1983 under the leadership of Jerry S.Wolinsky, M.D., the team has participated in more than 20 clinical trials of potential new therapies. The Medical School was the lead center for a number of these international studies. Several of the clinical trials were pivotal in gaining Food and Drug Administration approval for current MS treatments.Wolinsky is holder of the Bartels Family and Opal C. Rankin Professorships in Neurology and interim dean of the Medical School.
