Duke Gala Organizers

The recent kickoff dinner to raise money for the James H. “Red” Duke Jr., M.D., scholarship endowment had three organizers, not just two, as mentioned in the April issue of Distinctions. The dinner benefitted medical students and surgical residents at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Edson Cheung, M.D., Medical School alumnus, and David Van Buren, M.D., a former transplant surgery fellow, formulated the scholarship and fund raising idea. They and Rosemary Kozar, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of surgery, organized the dinner. All three trained under Duke in their general surgery residencies.
