Mentors Elaine Forrester from Port Arthur, left, and Maria Flores from San Antonio, center, and project manager Madeline Savoy from Port Arthur are among those celebrating their successes during their final Ready to Read training meeting in April in Houston. More than 12,000 Texas children, ages 3-5, will be better prepared for their formal schooling because of the two-year Ready to Read training grant from the Texas Education Agency to the Center for Improving the Readiness of Children for Learning and Education (CIRCLE). The grant provided for training 53 mentors and 525 teachers. Mentors and teachers gathered to network and plan for keeping the programs going in their districts or individual schools after the grant ends. CIRCLE is directed by Susan Landry, Ph.D., the Michael Matthew Knight Professor in Pediatrics at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
