The melding of the philanthropic and academic communities through the appointment of faculty members to endowed positions was celebrated at the 2005 Faculty Honors Convocation.
In the first investiture ceremony for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, each faculty member appointed to an endowed position during fiscal year 2005 received a special medallion.
“The investiture of endowed positions is a significant event in the university,” said L. Maximilian Buja, M.D., executive vice president for academic affairs. “Investiture represents two investments: the investment of scholarship in teaching and searching, and the investment of philanthropy in the support of scholarship. In truth, we cannot move forward without both.”
Currently, the health science center has 90 endowed positions.
Recognized for appointments to endowed positions were:
Eric Boerwinkle, Ph.D., professor and director, Division of Epidemiology, and professor and director, Center for Human Genetics, School of Public Health, Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM), and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS). Appointed to the Kozmetsky Family Chair in Human Genetics.
