Finance and Administration
Human Resources has begun reporting to Kevin Dillon, who now has the title of executive vice president for finance and administration.
Senior Executive Vice President Michael McKinney, M.D., explained that changing the Human Resources department’s reporting line from his office to Dillon’s creates a more complete finance and administration unit, thus the change in Dillon’s title from executive vice president for finance and business affairs.
Dillon, who serves as the university’s chief financial officer, joined the UT Health Science Center staff in 1996, serving in a variety of financial roles.
Office of the President
Charles “Bill” McClain has been appointed assistant to the president, James T. Willerson, M.D. In that role, McClain is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the administrative support operations of the office, assisting Willerson with the scheduling of and preparation for briefings, meetings and other university functions.
McClain was most recently vice president for operations at Procorp Associates Inc., an international management consulting firm based in The Woodlands. His 40 years’ experience includes chief of staff to the county judge of Bexar County and chief of public affairs for the U.S. Army. McClain retired from active federal service in 1995 with the rank of major general.
Chief Information Officer
Richard Miller, interim chief information officer since November 2004, has been appointed chief information officer.
“Since his appointment as interim CIO, Rick has taken on the increased responsibility of the oversight of a combined workforce, dealing very effectively and efficiently with the IT Governance Committee and the Executive Budget Committee,” said Michael McKinney, M.D., senior executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Miller has been employed at the health science center for 18 years. As interim CIO, he has overseen a reorganization of the Information Technology roles and responsibilities within the university.
Diversity
The Office of Strategic Affairs and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity have been restructured.
The Office of Strategic Affairs has been eliminated, and an Office of Cultural and Institutional Diversity has been created to oversee educational, research and community issues as they relate to diversity at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. This new office functions under the direction of Ronald Johnson, D.D.S., as the chief diversity officer. Yolanda Davis, formerly with the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, works with Johnson as diversity coordinator in this new office.
The operational functions (investigations, training, tracking and trending, etc.) of the former Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity have been transferred to the Department of Human Resources.
