Donor Wall Bears Names of IMM Contributors

A donor recognition wall was unveiled at the main entrance of the Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building, home of The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM), during a Nov. 1 dedication ceremony. The permanent display, measuring nearly 12 feet tall by 31 feet long, honors both New Frontiers Campaign donors who funded the building, as well as founding donors to the creation of the IMM.

Founding Donors

In 1995, James T. Willerson, M.D., founder of the Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM), enlisted community leader and philanthropist Rodney H. Margolis to lead a $30-million campaign to provide funding for the newly created program. This was the health science center’s
largest fundraising effort to date, and the campaign exceeded its goal. The generous individuals, foundations and corporations listed below are recognized as the Founding Donors of the IMM.

New Frontiers Campaign Donors

In 2001, six years after the initial fundraising campaign, James T. Willerson, M.D., founder of the Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM) and president of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, launched the $200-million New Frontiers Campaign, with respected community leaders Wilhelmina (Beth) Robertson as chair and Benton F. Love as co-chair of the effort.

The primary objectives of the New Frontiers Campaign were to build a new facility to house the research of the IMM and to provide funds for the recruitment and retention of worldrenowned scientists. In less than five years, the New Frontiers Campaign surpassed its $200-million goal, thanks to the response of nearly 300 individuals, foundations and corporations.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston has named this building the Fayez S. Sarofim
Research Building in recognition of Sarofim’s leadership gift to the New Frontiers Campaign.

The institute has been named The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention
of Human Diseases to recognize the foundation’s generous support.
