Leaders of Tomorrow is an organization of young Houston professionals who share an interest in health care, philanthropy and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Pereira, professor of otolaryngology and pediatrics, vice chairman and residency director for the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the UT Medical School at Houston, discussed “Obesity and Apnea in Children: Current Trends and Future Consequences.”

Other speakers and topics were: Charles S. Cox Jr., M.D., The Children’s Fund, Inc., Distinguished Professor in Pediatric Surgery Trauma, Medical School, “Cellular Therapy for Traumatic Brain Injury in Children”; Susan H. Landry, Ph.D., The Michael Matthew Knight Memorial Professor in Pediatrics, Medical School, and director, UT Children’s Learning Institute, on “A New System to Assure Young Texas Children are School Ready”; and Scott R. Lillibridge, M.D., professor and director, Center for Biosecurity and Public Health Preparedness, UT School of Public Health, “Pandemic Flu and Biodefense.”
