Development Board Welcomes 11 New Members

Community leaders agree to join in helping UT Health Science Center gain support

During the most recent University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Development Board meeting and luncheon, 11 new members were announced:

Willie James Alexander, president of W.J. Alexander & Associates P.C., a Houston-based employee benefits consulting and insurance brokerage firm; former defensive back for the Houston Oilers; former Harris County Tax-Assessor Collector; chairman of the Texas Southern University Foundation; chairman of the Houston Forum; and Texas Children’s Hospital trustee.

Stephen Craig Beasley, president of El Paso Corporation, Eastern Pipeline Group, the largest pipeline company in the world; member of the UT System Chancellor’s Council; director of the nanobiotechnology company, C Sixty Inc.; and a graduate of UT Austin with a degree in biology.

Gary Douglas Becker, partner in Becker Interests L.P.; trustee of the Becker Family Foundation, which supports the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston; director of Houston Children’s Charity; and a UT alumnus.

Steven Lewis Gordon, partner at Lipnick & Gordon Company, a firm specializing in elder law; member of the UT System Chancellor’s Council; founder and principal donor of the UT Health Science Center Janice Davis Gordon Distinguished Professorship in Bowel Cancer Research, established to honor his late wife.

Rhonda Foote Judy, director of Octagon Financial; member of the UT System Chancellor’s Council; former UT Health Science Center Development Board member from 1998-2001; and vice chairman of the UT Health Science Center Weatherhead Challenge and Healing Hearts Campaign.

Meredith J. Long, founder/owner of Meredith Long & Company, an art gallery specializing in 19th and 20th century American art and early modernism; former director of Quintana Petroleum; Texas Heart Institute chairman; life trustee and chairman emeritus of the Alley Theatre; Smithsonian Institute, Archives of American Art board member; UT System Chancellor’s Council member; UT Austin College of Fine Arts advisory director; and UT Austin graduate.

Greg Allan Kozmetsky, chairman of the RGK Foundation, a family foundation that supports education and medicine; chairman of KMS Ventures; partner of Kozfund, Ltd.; director of HyPerformix; inducted into the Hall of Fame by Philanthropy World magazine in 2004; named Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Austin Chapter in 2001; member of the UT Austin Development Board; and graduate of UT Austin.

Elizabeth “Beth” Sanders Moore, chief executive officer of Ad Hoc The Legal Placement Company, an employment services firm specializing in the legal profession; former Houston Chapter advisory director/president of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors member; former chairman of the World AIDS Day luncheon for AIDS Foundation Houston; and committee member of the Family Services of Greater Houston annual luncheon.

Carrin Foreman Patman, partner at Bracewell & Giuliani, a law firm specializing in securities litigation and antitrust; named a Texas Super Lawyer in civil litigation defense in 2003 and 2004 by Super Lawyer magazine; recipient of the Karen H. Susan Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League; director of Sheltering Arms Senior Services; Society for the Performing Arts director; former Houston Area Women’s Center Guild director; and a graduate of the UT Law School.

Ali Asghar Saberioon, president of Houston-based Sabco Oil and Gas; founder and principal donor of the Iranian Medical Relief Foundation; founder of the Iranian Referral Center; director of the Society of Iranian Professionals in Texas; Houston Community College Foundation director; and luncheon host committee member of the Children’s Defense Fund.

Frederick S. Zeidman, chairman of Seitel Inc., a company that provides seismic data to the oil and gas industry and has one of the largest seismic libraries in the world; president of Corporate Strategies Inc., and chairman of its parent company, Emerge Capital Corporation; appointed by President George W. Bush as the first post-Holocaust generation chairman of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, which oversees the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.; owner/publisher of the Houston Social Book; director of Prosperity Bank; founder of Houston Venture Capital Association; director of Texas Interfaith Housing; and recipient of the Guardian of the Human Spirit Award from the Holocaust Museum Houston in 2005.

The Development Board membership committee was chaired by David Grimes. The addition of the 11 new members brings the total board membership to 150.
