Is Houston Elder-Friendly?

Planning for an elder-friendly city will be the focus of the 19th Annual Selenia E. and Joseph C. Valley Conference, hosted by The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston’s Center on Aging, with the support of the Harris County Agency on Aging and Care for Elders. The conference will be 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel and Conference Center, 4800 Calhoun Rd. For more information, including fees and a complete schedule, call (713) 500-9167.

During the conference the Valley Advisory Board will honor Nancy L. Wilson as Gerontological Professional of the Year, and Earl B. Loggins will receive the Community Advocate Award. Wilson is assistant professor of internal medicine-geriatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, where she works at the Huffington Center on Aging. She also is a doctoral student at the UT Texas School of Public Health at Houston. Loggins serves on the Metropolitan CME Church’s board of trustees, which recently authorized a feasibility study for a senior housing complex. He is a member of the Golden Age Ministry and the Health and Wellness Ministry of the church and a Senior Citizen Community Advocate for Precinct 2.
