New Investigator Development Program, Grants 101, 8 a.m.- noon, Sept. 8-9, Medical School Building, Room B.100, overview of policies and procedures for submitting and managing research grants. Grants 102, eight-month workshop during which participants develop a grant application that is peer reviewed and ready to submit for external funding at the close of the workshop. Radiation Safety Officer Course, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Sept. 12-16, Operations Center Building, sponsored by the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health. Provides information needed to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation hazards. Course outline and lectures meet established Nuclear Regulatory Commission and State of Texas Bureau of Radiation Control training requirements for Radiation Safety Officers. Learning to Practice and Teach: an Intensive Workshop, 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Sept. 16 and 18, Robert C. Hickey Auditorium. Small groups will enable faculty members, fellows and residents to practice skills of evidence-based health care, working closely with colleagues and experienced faculty. Evidence-based health care means that clinical decisions are based on the best available evidence from clinical research, combined with clinical expertise and patient preferences.
