Graduates Begin School’s Second 100 Years

With distinction, elation and celebration, the class of 2005 celebrated commencement during the centennial year of The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. Dean Catherine M. Flaitz, D.D.S., and the ceremony marshall, Robert Kaminski, D.D.S., Ph.D., associate professor of diagnostic sciences, prepare to lead the procession at the Verizon Wireless Theatre in May. Sixty-five students received the D.D.S. degree; 16 students received dental hygiene certificates; and 22 received a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. The ceremony was followed by a reception hosted by the UT Dental Branch Alumni Association.

Jerry Long, D.D.S., president of the UT Dental Branch Alumni Association, spoke about the importance of “repaying those who have invested so much in you and your chosen career” – including “every dentist or dental hygienist who has graduated from this institution over the past 100 years,” taxpayers, elected officials, The University of Texas System and the health science center.
