UT System Awards Houston United To Serve

UT System Chancellor Mark Yudof has recognized the Office of Public Affairs at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston for its role in supporting the university's United To Serve initiative last April.

Presented in November at the annual UT System Seminar for public affairs, development and other staff from all 15 UT campuses, the award for Innovations in Community Relations recognizes the Public Affairs effort to promote the project and recruit volunteers from among the faculty, staff and students via a special project Web site.

Some 100 health science center volunteers turned out on a rainy Saturday morning to contribute two hours of service at several Texas Medical Center institutions. Public Affairs staff worked with a multidisciplinary campus-wide committee chaired by UT Dental Branch at Houston student Jeremy Chance, who graduated in May.

Plans are now under way for the 2005 edition of United To Serve.
