The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston contributed to a record-setting day. The health science center's donation of a $15,000 sponsorship and more than $30,000 in donations helped the local 2004 Heart Walk raise over $1.1 million in donations for the first time. The health science center had more than 300 walkers, sporting orange T-shirts provided by Novo Nordisk, a pharmaceutical company, in honor of the Medical School's Stroke Team.
Health science center employees, students, family members and friends gathered at the university's tent for breakfast, donated and served by Luby's Cafeteria. After the walk, the Stroke Team and the UT Dental Branch at Houston mobile van gave free health screenings. Susie Ellen, from the Office of Public Affairs, organized this year's event for the health science center.
