Dinner Notes $1 Billion in UT System Research

A gala dinner in Houston will celebrate the achievement of more than $1 billion of research funding in health institutions of The University of Texas System.

The dinner is part of a UT System-wide conference on translating discoveries in molecular medicine into health Feb. 21-22 at the Houston Hilton-Americas.

"The conference chair and steering committee have put together an outstanding, institutionally balanced program that features translational research applications using genetics, genomics/ proteomics, imaging and therapeutics," said Kenneth Shine, M.D., executive vice chancellor for health affairs of the UT System.

The dinner is included in the $75 registration fee. Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D., director of the National Cancer Institute, will be the featured dinner speaker. "We expect a number of civic and community leaders to participate as well, as we highlight the remarkable achievements of The University of Texas health science programs," Shine said.

Organizers plan for at least 20 abstracts from each institution for the poster sessions at the conference. Attendance by faculty, students and trainees is encouraged. For more information, see
