George Stancel, Ph.D., dean of The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, unpacks his office after the school's December move to the George and Cynthia Mitchell Basic Sciences Research Building at 6767 Bertner. The graduate school will host an open house 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17.

The building in the center of the Texas Medical Center was made possible by a $20 million gift to the UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center from philanthropists George and Cynthia Mitchell. The graduate school was the first to occupy the 485,700-square-foot basic sciences research facility. The school's classrooms and offices are located in the Virgil and June M.Waggoner Academic Hall on the third floor, along with the 223-seat Onstead auditorium and conference facility.

"We are most excited about our new home in this grand facility," Stancel said, "particularly given our joint heritage of faculty and students derived primarily from both The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center."
