Some 550 participants celebrated March 27 in honor of Eeyore and student scholarships at the 26th Annual Eeyore’s 5K Fun Run. The run was presented by the Texas Exes Houston Chapter and sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science at Houston.
Both walkers and runners came out in full force as the skies cleared and made way for a great day of family fun. The top overall time for the male division was 16:08, placed by Rudy Rocha. In the female division, Ute Jamrozy was able to grab the top overall spot with a time of 17:55. The event featured runners of all ages from teens to senior citizens. A non-competitive 1K Fun Run and a piñata provided fun for the 12 and under group.
Proceeds benefit the Texas Exes Houston Chapter Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for students at the health science center and Houston-area high school students who will attend UT System schools in the fall.
The awards ceremony was presented by radio personality and UT Austin alumnus Michael Garfield, better known as “The High Tech Texan.”
The run builds on a tradition that began at UT Austin as a birthday party in honor of Eeyore, the Great Grey Donkey in A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh stories.
