Health Science Center Communications Win Awards

 

Four UT Health Science Center at Houston entries have won awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District IV. The awards were presented April 5 at the annual district conference in Houston.

In the Web Site category, HealthLeader, the twiceweekly medical information service at http://www.healthleader.uthouston.edu, won an Achievement Award/Bronze. HealthLeader is edited by Karen Krakower and designed by Sophia Solis, both in Public Affairs.

In the Medical/Scientific Writing Collection category, an Achievement Award/Bronze went to Krakower for her three-part HealthLeader series on “When Happily Ever After...Ends: A Young Woman’s Survival Guide to Sudden Loss Through Death or Divorce.”

In the Medical/Scientific News Writing category, Scott Merville, Public Affairs, won a Special Award/Pewter for “Swift Treatment Saves Infants’ Sight,” which reported results of research on a major cause of childhood blindness.

In the Newsletters/Tabloids/Newspapers category, a Special Award/Pewter went to Distinctions, which is edited by Ina Fried, Public Affairs, and designed by Julie Rushing, Printing Services. Two of the three issues submitted for judging included special inserts, primarily written by Amber Buckley, Development.

CASE District IV includes about 250 secondary and higher education institutions in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Mexico.
