Special Events & Creative Services
The Special Events and Creative Services team coordinates the health science center’s integrated marketing initiative, creating a common public “face” and consistent “voice” for the institution. The team also coordinates special events and provides community services that support the mission of the institution.

Jackie Dryden

Jackie Dryden is a veteran of the advertising industry. She is a relentless observer of people and marketing professional who knows how to craft and execute effective communications programs. Jackie began her career in advertising after graduating from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Journalism degree. She has worked for international and local advertising agencies, including fifteen years as President and Creative Director of her own firm. Jackie’s work has been recognized with over one hundred awards for creativity, from Communication Arts and Print Magazines to National ADDY’s and the New York Art Director’s Show. She is a past Chairman of the American Advertising Federation / Houston and has served on many boards, including the Better Business Bureau’s Advertising Review Board and the Graphic Design Committee at The Art Institute. Jackie is the recipient of the Spirit of AAF Award and the AAF Silver Medal. Jackie spends several days each year as a judge for advertising award competitions around the country. She is also in demand as a speaker on the subjects of creativity, stress, making presentations and parenting.

Leslie Holland

Leslie Holland is responsible for the concept and design of a variety of marketing and promotional materials for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. With her help, the Office of Public Affairs is responsible for producing materials with a consistent look and message for the university’s internal and external audiences. Projects include brochures, posters, event invitations and promotional items as well as interior design projects. Signage and wayfinding programming and design development also benefit from Leslie’s knowledge and expertise in the field. She has more than 20 years experience including design firms in Austin and Houston and as in-house corporate creative director for two Houston companies. She brings a knowledge of corporate and institutional culture to the Marketing and Community Relations team – as well as experience developing working relationships with clients and vendors to achieve the best and most cost effective collateral materials. Leslie is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communications. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree (Swiss equivalency) from Allgemeine Gewerbeschule Basel, Schule für Gestaltung in Basel, Switzerland.

Rose Mary Betancourt-Trevino

Rose Mary Betancourt-Trevino enjoys her work on behalf of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Whether she is organizing 600 students, faculty or staffers to take part in the American Heart Walk, the Eeyore Fun Run, or planning a turnkey event such as a grand opening of a new facility or the annual Founders Fun Fest, her attention to detail is evident. She has been with the University since 1999 and knows well the workings of the different schools. Her ability to get volunteers for events is a vital part of her role, and people like to work with Rose Mary because she is organized and dependable. Rose Mary is a member of key University-wide committees, the 2001-2003 University Classified Staff Council where she chairs the Staff Development and Recognition Subcommittee. She also serves on the 2002-2004 Committee on the Status of Women.

As Coordinator of Special Projects, Shannon plans and facilitates events for the Office of the President and those that make the university better known to its many audiences and influencers. She works with the schools and development officers to provide needed support and marketing collateral in planning events both large and small. Prior to joining The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Shannon attended The University of Texas at Austin where she graduated in May 2007 with a degree in Corporate Communication and a certification in Business Foundations. While attending college, she held positions that gave her real estate marketing experience that serves her well in her work for UT Health Science Center.

Jessica brings to her position as Coordinator of Special Projects a wealth of experience in events planning. She gained marketing knowledge in her recent position with the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Jessica has a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communications, and finished with high honors. She was active on the campus, taking a leadership position in key organizations. Her responsbilities with UT Health Science Center involve start-to-finish management of events, for the Office of the President and the Development Board.

Lauren Laman

As an Office of Institutional Advancement graphic designer, Lauren Laman provides services that can include design and production of brochures, university-event invitations and display posters. In addition she is one reason the department can produce a variety of collateral materials in both a timely and cost effective manner. Some of her responsibilities include concept and design of brochures, invitations and other collateral materials for the university’s development and marketing efforts and other departments and schools, plus event materials. Lauren came to UT Health Science Center after working as a graphic designer in the Community Relations office of Lamar Consolidated Independent School District in Rosenberg, Texas. She graduated with a bachelor of fine art degree from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.
