Philanthropist endows new professorship at
UT School of Public Health San Antonio
HOUSTON – (July 21, 2009) – A generous donation made by San Antonio philanthropist A. David Mangelsdorff, Ph.D., M.P.H., has established a trust to endow the A. David Mangelsdorff Professorship in Community Preparedness and Public Health at The University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio Regional Campus.

The professorship, the first for the school’s San Antonio Regional Campus, will allow researchers to focus on new and critical areas of public health and disaster preparedness that have particular relevance to the San Antonio area.
Mangelsdorff previously endowed a professorship in Public Health Preparedness and Biomedical Research at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The new professorship in the UT School of Public Health represents his continued desire to support multidisciplinary scholarship, higher education, national security and homeland defense.
Mangelsdorff is currently a professor and health psychologist with the Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health and Business Administration at the Academy of Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston. His areas of expertise are military psychology, occupational health, stress, terrorism, substance use, patient attitudes and professional retention factors.
Mangelsdorff, who has a master of public health degree from the UT School of Public Health San Antonio Regional Campus, currently serves as an adjunct professor at the campus. A Fulbright Scholar, Mangelsdorff is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds advanced degrees from the University of Delaware, St. Mary’s University and the UT School of Public Health.
