UT Health Science Center at Houston schedules commencements for each of its schools

 

HOUSTON – (April 13, 2009) – Distinguished speakers will address faculty, staff, students and guests when six professional schools of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston hold 2009 commencement ceremonies, graduating more than 750 students. Excellence above all in the quest to be an acknowledged leader in the collaboration to treat, cure and prevent the most common diseases of our time through education, research and clinical practices is the vision of the university. Detailed information for each commencement event is below:

The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston
When: 4 p.m., Thursday, May 7
Where: Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building
1825 Pressler Street
Number of graduates: Four Ph.D. graduates and five M.S. graduates
Commencement Speaker: Brent King, M.D., executive vice dean for clinical affairs and professor and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing
When: 7 p.m., Friday, May 8
Where: George R. Brown Convention Center General Assembly Theater
1001 Avenida de las Americas
Number of graduates: 293, including nine who will be the first to earn Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees from the school
Commencement Speaker: Lynn Oswald, Ph.D., RN, assistant professor in psychiatric-mental health nursing at the University of Maryland School of Nursing

Commencement Speaker: Michael J. Zigmond, Ph.D., professor of neurology and director of the Morris K. Udall Center of Excellence in Parkinson’s Disease Research at the University of Pittsburgh

The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston
When: 2 p.m., Friday, May 22
Where: Cullen Performance Hall on the University of Houston Main Campus
Number of graduates: more than 115 D.D.S., Dental Hygiene and Advanced Education graduates
Commencement Speaker: Richard W. Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H., executive director of the American Dental Education Association

The University of Texas Medical School at Houston
When: 7 p.m., Thursday, May 28
Where: George R. Brown Convention Center General Assembly Theater

Number of graduates: 191
Commencement Speaker: Henry W. Strobel, Ph.D., associate dean for faculty affairs and professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UT Medical School at Houston
